This Newsletter was distributed to our members and is also available for anybody to view in each of our Regional Centres, should you not be a member but wish to pick up a copy. Additionally to this, it was distributed to many of the agencies we deal with, to keep them informed of developments in Survivors lives and to aid them referring Survivors onto our Services, should they present themselves and not no who Right of Place Second Chance is.

 

We hope you find/found it interesting and we hope there is some information contained within that is of some benefit to you and your family. There was also a number of other items that could not fit into the newsletter this time, that may include some useful information and this is detailed below;

Tracing:

Information, photographs requested for the family of Kevin Cassidy, born in Dublin. Mr Cassidy is a former resident of Upton from dates 1947-1953.  Please contact the Cork Office at 0214551377 if you have any details on Mr Cassidy.

 

Tracing:

Final request for information, photographs and stories of the late Arthur Greene, former resident of Upton 1959-1965. .  Arthur Greene was an avid basketballer with Upton. Arthur’s children have no information or photographs of their father and are very eager to have some information on him. Please contact the Cork Office at 0214551377 if you have any details on Arthur Greene.

 

Kerry Drop In Centre:

A Drop in Centre for the Kerry Region was opened on 2nd July 2013. The drop in centre runs every Tuesday evening in Cumman Ioseaf Community Centre, Balloonagh, Tralee, Co Kerry.  Meet fellow survivors, get involved in upcoming events, exhibitions and outings. Open to all survivors and their family.  For more information contact the Cork Office at 0214551377.

 

Art Exhibitions in Cork and Kerry Regions:

An Art Exhibition ‘Walk a Mile in My Shoes’ which showcases survivors Art, Poetry, Prose , Photographs and Crafts will be held in

Blackpool Library 16th -23rd July –open to the general public.

Tralee Town Library 23rd-30th September – open to the general public.

Request of arts, poetry, prose, photographs and crafts to be placed in the exhibition. Please contact the Cork office at 0214551377.

Poetry Competition in Cork and Kerry Regions:

A poetry competition is being held over the course of the summer. All entries to the competition are to be received no later than the 30th of August.

1st Prize: 200 euro

2nd Prize: 75  euro

3rd Prize: 50  euro.

The winner will be chosen by Billy Keane, son of acclaimed Irish poet and playwright, John B. Keane on the 27th September 2013.  An event will be held in the John B. Keane pub in Listowel, Co Kerry.

Research and Request for Participants:

A Study into the Abuse at Letterfrack Industrial School is being undertaken by Psychologist Jerry Lynch.  Jerry, who has worked with a number of survivors from Letterfrack feels that the abuse that went on in Letterfrack needs to be highlighted.  If you are interested in participating please contact Annemarie Crean, Outreach Coordinator, Cork and Kerry Regions, at 0214551377 for further information.

 

“The Magdalene Institutions: Recording an Oral and Archival History” is being conducted via the Women’s Studies Centre in University College Dublin.  As many women will not get the opportunity to have their stories and experiences of the Laundries told UCD are offering women the chance to have their stories put down in paper and recorded.  If you have any knowledge on the Magdelene Laundries, have experiences of the Laundries and are willing to participate please contact Annemarie Crean Outreach Coordinator Cork and Kerry Regions, at 0214551377 for further information.

Classes:

 

Our Art Class in Cork has run very successfully this year with pieces being included in the upcoming Art Exhibitions.  The classes have finished for the summer but will return in the Autumn. If you are interested in attending please contact the Cork Office at 0214551377.

We are hoping to get Classes established in the Kerry Region in the next number of months.
